FAQ: What's Wrong With My Layout?

If you believe you have installed a layout correctly but it is not appearing as it did in the preview image, you may need to change some of your journal settings. Choose the problem you are having:

The header/sidebar are missing.
Parts of the layout are out of place or won't line up.
Colored boxes are appearing where they shouldn't.
My friends and calendar pages are plain.
The layout setup is different than the preview shows.

If you have carefully read through these solutions, as well as the installation instructions, and still cannot seem to solve the problem, comment on the entry of the layout in question and I will help you.

The header/sidebar are missing.
If your header image, sidebar, or other parts of your layout will not appear, you need to define a website in your user info. None of the layouts at Spiral♥Bound will work as intended if you do not have one.

To add a website to your user info, go to the
Edit Info page. Scroll down to the fifth blue field, which is labeled "Website URL." In the box next to it, put some sort of text. (It may be an actual website, if you wish, or it can be any random letters — as long as something is in there.) Scroll to the bottom of the page and press "Save Changes."

Parts of the layout are out of place or won't line up.
Is your header image misaligned, or are you finding that other parts of your layout are out of place? It's likely that you have a default user pic, and the layout you are using is not compatible with them. To fix this, go to the
Edit Userpics page. Scroll to the bottom, and choose the "No Default Picture" radio button. Click "Save Changes," and the alignment of your layout should be fixed.

Please note that your user icons will still be there; you simply will not have one appearing on your front page. If you want one to appear when you are posting or commenting, you may choose one from the dropdown menu.

If you are bothered by not being able to have a user icon, we do have several layouts with which they are compatible. If a layout will work with a default user pic, it will be stated under "Description" in the layout's entry.

Colored boxes are appearing where they shouldn't.
If your layout has strange-looking colored boxes around it, you will need to edit your colors on the
Modify Journal page. Scroll down to where it says "Color Theme," and select the "Custom Colors" radio button. Then clear all the colors from the boxes. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save Changes." The boxes on your layout will now disappear.

My friends and calendar pages are plain.
When using a Spiral♥Bound layout, you will notice that your friends and calendar pages have turned a default black-and-white. This is because I create layouts for recent entries view only, meaning that only your main page will be skinned. I do this because it takes far less time to create one view (recent entries) rather than four (recent entries, friends, calendar, and day). This means I can use my time to make more layouts, so you have a wider variety to choose from.

If you would like to edit the layout so that it appears on other views, you may do so as per
this tutorial. However, because the layout was intended for only the recent entries view, it may not look right when applied to others. I apologize, but I cannot help you fix any problems that may arise from using the layout on other views.

The layout setup is different than the preview shows.
If you believe that your layout is set up correctly yet it is not appearing like the preview image, make sure that you have selected the correct journal style. The style the layout uses is listed in the layout's entry. To change your journal style, go to the
Modify Journal page and choose the style name from the "most recent entries" dropdown, then save.
